Ousman, a famous activist and communicator, lives as a renowned public figure in Europe, where he recounts the dangerous journey of more than 14.000 km he decided to embark on as a child to discover the land of the white.

Storyline

Based on the real story of Ousman, a Ghanian boy who was fascinated by the White Man’s technology the day he saw a plane fly over his village. His curiosity is so big that he flees home to start a long and dangerous journey towards Europe, during which he meets Mussa. During their adventure, they’re exposed to a cruel world run by mafias and the harshness of the desert and the sea. After travelling more than 14.000km, Ousman finally makes it to Spain, alone, losing his best friend on the crossing. Something unexpected happens after wandering around the city of Barcelona for months: he is adopted by a Catalan family. Ousman becomes a famous activist and communicator, who dedicates his life to sharing his experience around the world. Day after day, he confronts the demons from his past to be able to face the present.

DIRECTOR’S NOTES

Ousman’s story is one of personal growth that shows the cruelty and the harshness of the journey some embark on n search for a different life in a supposedly better world. The crossing of the desert and the Atlantic, the Libian, Argelian and Moroccan borders, the mafia, his days in the CIE ( Spanish Migrant Detention Center) and finally his arrival to Barcelona… these all reveal a reality hidden behind a Western vail. Like the majority of migrants, Ousman could have died on multiple occasions: He could have not made it to his final destination, or maybe made it but spent the rest of his days homeless, aimlessly wandering around a European City. He could have joined a mafia in Mauritania or been locked up in a cell in Argelia. Mussa, his best friend, drowned on the Mauritanian coast. Up until then, Ousman and Mussa’s lives were like two drops of water, two parallel stories that destiny decided to break apart. One survived and made it, the other one died. Ousman is fully aware of this.He knows he is the exception. He has lived with this for almost a decade and it is because of this that he feels the like themost fortunate person on the planet. This feeling has made him want to give back to the world what it takes away from so many opportunities. Ousman decides, day after day, to tell his story so there are no more stories to tell. He accepts this challenge but lives with an internal duality which is very difficult to explain, full of fears, joy and flattery. But, who is Ousman today? For all Ghanians, another reaffirming case that the journey is worth it. For the westerners, an inspiration.
